Even if you are not a history fanatic, you are guaranteed to enjoy discovering the stunning architecture during an afternoon stroll around the citadel and the Saint – Jacques area of his little town and running along the side of the River Thouet in the heart of the Gātine countryside.

Les Forges offers a superb 27-hole gold course with an English-speaking pro on hand. Whilst Bois Pouvreau supports a beautiful lake for fishing, woodland walks with large curiously shaped natural rocks, picnic area, crazy golf, children's playground and Boules area.

Marais Poitevin or "La Venise Verte" – the Green Venice. Approx 45 minutes away is an area of outstanding natural beauty. Recently declared a regional park with an elaborate system of canals, dykes and slow-flowing rivers, picturesque houses & cycle paths. Take a punt on the canal. Why not take a picnic or stop off at one of the restaurants for lunch or dinner.
